Take hold of your fitness goals and make your own healthy snacks and desserts at home. No need to break the bank on fancy organic snacks either; these two recipes made with common ingredients will boost your energy as well as feed your heart, brain, and cravings.

What you’ll need:

– Dark Chocolate or Carob Nibs – both maintain your healthy heart and brain.
– Almonds – regulate your cholesterol and add a low-calorie fiber source
– Coconuts flakes – provide healthy fats to keep you fuller for longer

Pick up a handful of each and toss together in a bowl.

Just the Right Amount of Trail Mix

Trail and Chex Mixes are so full of sugar and salt that eating more than a 1/4 cup can really pack on calories. Choose just enough ingredients to satisfy those crunchy-salty-sweet craving we all have.

Opt to transform the same ingredients into a thoughtful dessert for guests—melt the chocolate in a mini cupcake liner, top off with one almond and sprinkle of coconut flakes, and put it in the freezer until it hardens. Just remember, everything in moderation. Just because it’s a healthier alternative, doesn’t mean you should eat more of it.

Banana Ice CreamAmong the countless soy and tofu dairy alternatives available, a tasty faux ice cream can be hard to come by. Dodge the additives and dreadful taste tests for this easy fix.

All you need is a blender or food processor and ripe frozen bananas. Whip the bananas until smooth and creamy. You can even add mix-ins like fruit, peanut butter and top with coconut cream as a whipped cream alternative.
