No matter how long you’ve lived in a city, there will always be new corners to discover. The places you walk by every day suddenly change. Or an area that was once a dingy hole, is now sprawling, sparkly, and new.

Just 25 minutes outside of Washington DC, is National Harbor. The neighborhood is perfectly positioned to offer reprieve from the hustle and bustle of Washington. But with so many options, where does one begin? Lucky for you, we’ve been there done that, and have pieced together the perfect itinerary for your weekend outside the city.

Friday

Check in to your room at MGM National Harbor, and choose from a Capital View King to a luxurious chairman suite. Once you’re settled, you’ll want to check out happy hour. We recommend the Tap Sports Bar, home of 95 flat screen TVs and gorgeous views of the Potomac River.

After happy hour, grab dinner at the Voltaggio Brothers Steakhouse, home of a mouthwatering filet mignon or an incredible Maine lobster and blue crab imperial. Sip on a cocktail with dinner. The steakhouse offers a refreshing take on a Cosmo and the Queen’s Park Swizzle, the precursor to the mojito.

When you’re done with dinner, end your meal with dessert at the Bellagio Patisserie, home of French sweet delights like chocolates, cookies, and cakes.

Saturday

Sleep in and enjoy an early lunch at Shake Shack. Their burgers, chicken sandwiches, and vegetarian ‘shroom burgers for are to die for. Their MGM specific menu includes a maple, bacon and banana concrete made with local bakery Astro Doughnuts’ maple bacon doughnuts.

Head over to the Capital Wheel that afternoon and enjoy a ride on the Ferris Wheel with unprecedented views of the city. After your ride, grab an early afternoon drink at Flight Deck, an outdoor lounge that serves beer, wine, and specialty drinks.

Make your way back over to the Spa and Salon at MGM for a little “me” time. The “Express Relaxation” is a great and affordable option—and includes a back relief massage, le petit facial, and a perfect manicure.

Grab a quick nap before heading down to dinner. Then try Fish by Jose Andres, which celebrates the best food of the Maryland and Chesapeake Bay. The Vermicelli Mac and Cheese is incredible, as is the Oyster Po’ Boy.

Play some slots or table games at the casino before you take in any of the premier live shows at the 3,000 square foot MGM theater. Entertainment at the compound include acts by the likes of include Cher, Prince Royce, Journey, Mary J. Blige, and more.

Sunday

Before you leave, stop by Marcus’s Sunday Brunch Buffet to enjoy a carving station and unlimited bellinis, mimosas, and Bloody Mary’s.

The Pool at MGM National Harbor

If weather permits, you’re going to want to add the resorts pool to your list. The MGM National Harbor pool is open every year between May through Labor Day in September. Open only to hotel guests, the heated pool is small and offers unreserved cabana and lounge seating in shaded areas. Perfect for a relaxing dip or sun bath. Enjoy!
